High School Violence in Cleveland

http://www.newsnet5.com/news/21464633/detail.html

Violence has become an all too familiar factor at West High School in Cleveland. Newsnet5 tells the story on their local channel and the internet. Apparently the parents of the children at this school are fed up with all the fighting going on inside the school system. They are very worried for their kid’s safety and don’t want them exposed to this type of behavior. Even the police are fed up with the constant violence. They are claiming all this violence to be from what they are calling turf wars with rival gangs. Thursday there was a huge outbreak of fighting throughout the school and after the school day was over. In between classes in the cafeteria a big fight broke out, and sent many students running for their safety. Luckily officers were nearby and many more came to the scene to stop this fighting and turf war battle. One student told the officials that that a boy punched two girls and that one of the girls was pregnant. Everyone agrees even the neighboring citizens that this gang fighting is going too far and ruining their neighborhood. There are sometimes upwards of twenty-five officers at the school to maintain the peace. The police say that there is tension all the time in between classes and after the school day. The officers they never know when it might explode so they are always ready. All of these battles are because of rival gangs members being placed in this school. Schools are expelling students from one school and putting them in another, and a lot of these expelled students are from rival gangs across town that is now being put into West High. This is what is causing these turf wars battles. School leaders claim to be doing whatever they can and will correct the problem.

I don’t understand violence. It makes zero sense to physically fight your way to get your way. I hope they can settle this problem so the innocent students have a better time and are able to enjoy their few high school years.

In the article it says that they are expelling kids from one school and putting them into another. Usually kids that are expelled are trouble makers anyways, so why would they even deserve an education? I think being educated is a privilege and if they don’t want take advantage of it send them home permanently. Isn’t that what expulsion means?

Anyone who performs crimes inside the school systems and are expelled should have to fight for their right to get back into school. If they don’t fight for their right don’t give it to them.

Funniest Mug Shot Ever

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/10/29/iowa.marker.disguise/index.html

While reading the news on CNN I came across these two punk kids with what looks like magic marker all over their faces. It looks like they scribbled and scribbled till they were satisfied with the marker all over each others faces. They look plum ridiculous. The mug shots are priceless. They don’t look very pleased with their masking attempt in the photos. Apparently these kids who are twenty and twenty-three were trying to break into someone’s house. The police were called and told to look for two men in hooded sweatshirts and painted faces and they were trying to break into a house. The police were definitely shocked when they caught up with the suspects. The chief of police told a CNN correspondent that his officers were great at finding suspects and great investigators. I don’t think that these officers had any problem telling that these two punks were guilty or even had to use their skills. They think that these kids targeted this house over some type of girl problems and that the guy living there was dating one of their ex-girlfriends. They were both charged with attempted burglary and one of them was also charged with driving under the influence.

Sometimes people just plain amaze me. Whether they were drunk or not, or they were just going to rob this guys house. Where in the world did they get the idea of putting magic marker on their faces? I wonder if they thought they were camouflaging themselves.

After this article and thinking it over, I realized that I’m very thankful I’m not a complete idiots. These two kids deserve what they get. Can you imagine going to court and having the jurors see your ridiculous mug shots, I bet they laugh there butts off.

You should check these photos out, they really are very funny.

It's a Big Boat

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33548529/ns/travel-cruising/

I was reading on MSNBC today when I came across a heading that said world’s largest cruise ship. (I had to read it.) This cruise ship is amazing; it is 1,200 feet long and has sixteen levels. It can sleep 6,300 people including the crew and has 2,700 rooms on board. This ship belongs to the cruise company Royal Caribbean International. They spent $1.5 billion building it in Finland. This cruise ship has it all. It has volleyball courts, four swimming pools, ice skating rink, and even a small-scale golf course. The ice skating rink can accommodate 780 spectators watching whatever show might be put on. This ship has all sorts of different features. It has what they call different neighborhoods on board with different themes involved. It has parks and squares and all sorts of amazing features. In the front of the boat, the stern. There is a huge swimming pool in the daytime and at night it covers up to become a gigantic amphitheater seating 750 passengers. There is also an indoor theatre that seats even more people at 1,300 passengers. There are all kinds of cabins to choose from for any type of budget. They have loft style cabins that are 545 square feet to luxury style cabins at 1,600 square feet. On of the ships key features is that one of the areas on the boat themed after central park has a bar in it called the “Rising Tide” which moves up and down between three stories so passengers can get off at any of the three decks. This is the first moving bar. Another thing that they claim about the boat is that even though it is gigantic they had it engineered to be some what environmentally friendly. It dumps zero waists into the ocean and uses much less fuel. It actually consumes about they same amount of fuel as a cruise ship much smaller than it is.

I can’t believe these ships can get any bigger. I have not ever been on a cruise ship before, but I have seen many of them while on the beech. I can’t imagine them needing to be any larger.

After reading this article I realized this is a technological achievement. This is a grand cruise ship that I believe will certainly be a great investment for this company. I really like how they tried to make this ship as environmentally friendly as they could. That really means a lot these days and I hope that they get a few more passengers just because of that feature.

I would love to be the first one on this enormous thing. I also want to drive it! I think there is better wording for driving? Captain it maybe????

Universal Cell Phone Chargers

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/33448863/ns/technology_and_science-tech_and_gadgets/

Today on MSNBC’s top headlines they announced that the U.N. telecoms agency approved a universal cell phone charger. They said it will benefit in all sorts of areas. Customers will not have to keep track of all their chargers, especially those with two or more phones in the household. It will also benefit the environment because by doing this it will prevent 13.6 million tons of greenhouse gasses from entering the ozone from manufacturing of these chargers. It will also reduce the waste from the garbage bound chargers too. They are going to be the micron-USB style plug-in into your phone comparable to digital cameras. They also said that some manufactures would offer the regular USB plug-in so you can charge it directly from your computer instead of a wall socket. Not everyone will do this because the charge time is longer, but some will. The manufacturers will not be legally made to abide with the universal charger, but they said most generally phone makers have no problem following something that is good for their customers.

I’m glad someone finally realized that all the different types of phone and camera chargers are crazy.

I reacted this way because it’s about time we realize how stupid it is to make hundreds of different phones which all have a different charger. I couldn’t tell you how many times I have needed a charge on my phone and next thing you know you have fifteen chargers in front of you and none of them work. At my work we have an extra desk in the office. In one of the big drawers there are about twenty different chargers in it. (I’m not kidding.) If you get an extra charger you usually throw it in the desk. It’s kind of a joke, but I’ve used one of them and I’ve seen others look in there too.

Finally I can throw all those junk chargers away and clean my junk drawer out a little bit.

Travel Nice

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/traveltips/10/22/travel.behavior/index.html

I was reading this article on CNN.com today about being nice whenever you travel. It told many stories of travelers who got better treatment than those who were rude or expressed anger when things such as delayed flights or overbooked hotels didn’t go their way. A few ways to do this are to remain calm, flatter them, or be a volunteer. If you remain calm in a situation you just may get an upgraded room or flight. This article tells a story about a passenger who got onto a plane seated in coach. Her chair was broken and she goes to one of the flight attendants to see if she could be moved to another seat. Apparently the attendant was having a bad day a told her that the flight agreements never stated having a properly working seat in the contract. The attendant kept raising their voice while the passenger remained calm and tried to talk it out. During this confrontation another flight attendant saw what was going on and noticed who was out of line. The passenger was then quietly taken aside and took to business class. If you’re seated at your gate you can always try to flatter your gate attendant. Let them know you appreciate what they are doing and tell them they are doing a great job. Maybe if your flight is overbooked you won’t be the one held over and the angry man behind you will? If you are ever on a flight and another passenger might want to set with their significant other or child, or maybe they have a disability and could use your seat you could volunteer to give up that seat?

After reading this article, it reminded me of many circumstances where an angry customer got their way. I do think that it is probably much easier to remember those rude customers for their actions, but I also think that the people who are nice about what problems are going on are given special treatment quietly.

I reacted this way because too many people get away with being rude. I like hearing about customers being nice and getting a little extra in return. I was on a fully booked overseas flight one time. A family near me had a small dog with them. Their seats had the AC unit underneath and they weren’t able to get their dog kennel under it. The poor dad who was being very nice asked the flight attendant if he could be moved. She then asked out loud if anyone would give their seat up and trade him. I had a lane seat in the middle and gave it up for his seat in the center isle in the middle. I wasn’t very thrilled about doing this but the poor guy was going to have to hold that dog kennel on his lap for an eight hour flight! Whenever I got up to give him my seat the flight attendant called me over to her. She told me that I needed to follow her and took me all the way to the front in business class and pointed at a seat for me to set. I was thrilled and she thanked me for giving up my seat. I couldn’t believe it!

When it comes to people I think the best advice I can give anyone is to kill them with kindness.

Tennis Ball Trafficking

http://www.wwltv.com/topstories/stories/wwl101609mlopp.221e9dab1.html

I read this article at wwltv an ABC broadcasting affiliate. In New Orleans thirteen people were arrested in a drug trafficking ring using tennis balls. What they would do is fill up tennis balls with all kinds of different drugs and contraband and would throw it over the walls at the local penitentiary. They did this by using cell phones to talk to prisoners and others on the other side. They would then have them throw the tennis balls over to the inmates on the other side to make the swap. They don’t say how the money was transfered for these different drugs but are working to find out. They police officials said that it was mostly marijuana but some other drugs were thrown over also.

These criminals were supplying criminal’s drugs! They deserve to be together. I hope to see these guys make the news and go to jail with their buddies. I can’t believe they even thought they might get away with such a stupid act.

I reacted this way because criminals are so stupid. They always get caught, but I don’t understand why they sometimes try so hard. I mean come on, how do you think this would ever possibly be something you could get away with. Maybe they are elected by a higher ranking gang official or something. I would hate to be on the bottom of that sonority list and be get elected that job.

I hope these guys have fun in jail! These are some pretty dumb criminals and I hope they enjoy their time together. Wouldn’t you hate to have to explain yourself to a jury for this one?

Who Is Miles Austin

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/12/austins-huge-day-rescues-cowboys/print/

Last Sunday was a crazy day for the Dallas Cowboys. Their most prominent receiver Roy Williams was out for the game from an injury. Miles Austin, the third string receiver had to step in and step up for his team. Usually the third string man would just need to try not to make mistakes; they usually don’t do what Miles Austin did. He had the best game of his career and broke a Dallas Cowboy record set by the Hall Of Fame member Bob Hayes thirty-nine years ago. Miles broke the Cowboys game total rushing yardage record and help lead his team to a 26-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The winless Chiefs thought they had the game going in their favor. Then Miles broke a tackle and ran for 59 yards. This drive and others lead to a 20-13 lead over the Chiefs. The Chiefs did come back and bring it into over time, but Miles broke some more tackles on the second possession Dallas had and got a 60 yard run. Miles’ drive lead to a game winning field goal. This game was a crazy one for the Cowboys they had thirteen penalties and even missed a field goal. If not for Miles Austin this game could have went a different direction. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said that he did amazing and that they were going to keep him playing.

I didn’t realize that Miles Austin was a third stringer for the Dallas Cowboys because he did so well. You usually don’t have a record broke by a rookie that was set by from a Hall of Fame member. Especially someone who does't start.

I reacted this way because I had thought I knew who Miles Austin was during the game. When I found out I didn’t I couldn’t believe that he was a third stringer. He had an amazing game for anyone in the NFL and deserves a lot for his performance.

Hopefully Wade Phillips will continue playing him so we can see how he does Sunday.

Bad Car Thieves

http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_story.aspx?storyid=114693#

This week in Grand Rapids Michigan a guy named Tim Music went out to start and warm up his car in the morning. He told ABC that when he came out to leave with his son the car was gone. After getting a hold of the police they found the car just a few blocks away at a local school. The police set up on the car and waited to see if any students might have stolen this car and got into it after school, sure enough they did. Four students got into the car and tried to take off. They did not make it very far when the police were all over them. They were arrested and took to jail. Mr. Music says his car was locked and blames it on a faulty locking door. He says that he hopes that these kids are punished for the crime they committed and sentenced justly. He hates the fact that this happened to him in a neighborhood that has little crime.

My first reaction to this story was that these kids are dumb! They really should not of stolen the car in the first place, and really should not of gotten back into it.

I believe these kids are going to learn from their stupidity and the criminal punishment that they have coming their way. Grand theft auto is no laughing matter and can hopefully open these youngsters’ eyes that crime is not fun and games.

Maybe next time they won’t take their priced stolen possession to school and return to it. Hopefully these kids learn and can hopefully grow positively from this mistake.

Mom Shot While On the Computer

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/10/09/gun.soccer.mom.dead/index.html

I was reading an article on CNN.com when I came across a gruesome story about a double homicide. Meleanie Hain the mother of three was shot to death by her husband on Wednesday. She was chatting on the internet with a web cam when it happened. Her friend whom she was chatting with did not actually see the shoot that first hit her because he was looking away. When he looked back he saw her husband standing over where she was sitting and he was firing toward the ground where Meleania had fallen. Their three children were in the house but not harmed. After he killed his wife he went upstairs to kill himself. Apparently she had just gotten with her lawyers and was planning a separation from her husband a few weeks earlier. What makes this story even crazier is that she was a little bit famous from a year ago. She took a loaded handgun that was holstered in the open to her daughter’s soccer game. The police chief then revoked her license to carry and a judge reinstated it. She was famous throughout local NRA members and other fellow armed citizens

I can’t believe anything would ever lead to the cold blooded murder of someone and then taking your own life. This man could have ruined his children’s lives because of what he did. I believe him to be very cowardly to do this and think he is probably where he belongs.

I reacted this way because what happened is ridiculous. I can’t understand what is going on in some people’s lives, but how could it ever lead to a double homicide? He shot his wife while his kids were there and then cowered down and shot himself too.

This man deserves God’s harsh punishment.

Drone Airplanes

http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1927766,00.html

Drone or what I call remote control planes are now in the U.S. Air Force. They are called Predator planes, and are manned completely from the ground in Nevada. These drone planes were first going to only be piloted by former Air Force pilots, but after some logical thinking they can now be manned by anyone capable of just understanding aeronautics and using that knowledge via computer. The U.S. Government realized that only letting proven pilots fly these was a waste of money. They spend upwards of 1 million dollars, and eighteen months of training to train an F-22 Fighter Pilot. They believe they should let these pilots stay in their cockpits. The pilots that fly the predator plane go through a training course outside of Las Vegas at the Creech Air Force Base. These pilots are said to be leading the way in this new field of drone flying technology. These new pilots are very proud of what they do with their knowledge. Their main purpose is to do reconnaissance missions in Afghanistan and Iraq but they are able to fire missiles from their plane if needed. The planning for this drone plane took twelve years before it was put into action and requires a large amount of troops to maintain and pilot these drone planes. There are thirty-seven Predator planes in use right now, and they have a staff of over 150 flying and maintaining them.

I think that these drone planes are very interesting and hope they are able to prove themselves in combat situations. I really believe that this technology will protect some of our troops and save many lives in the future.

I reacted this way because I think that any type of unmanned aircraft is awesome. If it were to go down the only thing our forces would be out is some time and money. I also believe these predator planes will give good detail and information to our ground troops from reconnaissance they do. The pilots flying these should be proud of what they do and hailed for the American lives they save. I hope to see more unmanned vehicles in the future.

If you enjoy video games this might just be the job for you. The future is going wireless and now its saving lives too.

Solar Powered Homes

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/science/10/08/eco.solar.decathlon/index.html

Solar Power is gaining in popularity every year. People all over the world are starting to see the capability of using our most plentiful resource for our demanding energy needs. They are realizing this so much that they now have an international Solar Decathlon going on. There are teams all over the world participating in this event. Each team is building a completely solar powered house and competing for which one is the most efficient. There are teams from Puerto Rico, Germany, Spain, and all over the United States. A team from Santa Clara University in California told CNN all about this competition. This team is a bit different from many other teams participating in this event because all the students on the team are undergraduates. They have been working on their home for two years and have put in over 67,000 man hours in their solar home. They call their project the Refract House. They even have a motto, “Green Living Is Not a Compromise.” They designed their house differently than others because they stayed away from the box style house and tried to make the solar panels on the roof look more like a natural roof. They also designed an iPhone application that can turn electrical circuits off and on in the house when they don’t need them. This competition is strictly supervised; they watch how much hot water is produced by the solar panels and all sorts of different energy applications. This is the forefront of what is to come in the future with solar energy.

After reading this article, it helped me realize how abundant the sun is. It also made me think that we really need to figure out how to harness power from it even if it is very expensive. I belief the money spent will be well worth it in the long run.

I reacted this way because I’m in the electrical distributing industry. I think that what these students are doing with energy efficient houses will make it easier to understand what kind of payoff someone could have by investing in some solar panels for their home. It might be a large investment at first, but an investment that will surely payoff in the years ahead.

The ideas used and designed by this team from California and the rest of the competitors should help open our eyes to what future opportunities we will have with the use of solar energy.

Bungee Jumping

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33074374/ns/travel-active/

Bungee jumping was not just some crazy thing that someone came up with. In 1950 a historian filming the some islanders in an island of Australia, found men jumping off high raised platforms with vines tied to their legs and jumping off. This practice they called land-diving, and was not only for fun but for young boys to prove their manhood. They have been doing this for hundreds of years. In 1979 a guy named AJ Hackett led this into opened up a commercial bungee jump site in Ned Zealand. Before him there were others doing this illegally. He got with scientist and developed a safer way to make the cords, unlike the ones made from other elastic bands and the jumper’s praying they would work. Since the invention of commercialized bungee jumping, it has taken off all over the world. There are extremely crazy place to jump all around, such as, jumping from helicopter with a bungee cord strapped to your feet. Not only can you jumping from helicicopters, you can jump from a helicopter over a volcano filled with lava. These jumps can be from 150 feet to 300 feet on just a cord. They say it is a lot safer now than it was ten years ago because they have designed a lot better ankle harnesses that support you with more stable and safely.

After reading this it made me want to go bungee jumping immediately. I’ve done it once and loved it! I can’t believe they can have you do it from a helicopter, let alone one that is hovering over a volcano. I also found it interesting that it originated from islanders jumping from high points with vines tied to their legs. I don’t know if I could have proved myself or not.
I reacted this way because I love heights! I can hardly wait to go bungee jump again. I think those islanders were crazy, and would enjoy watching them jump with only a vine holding them. I think they are braver than ever because I’m sure that they have seen a few of those break.

If you have not bungee jumped before you should try it as soon as possible! It really is a very safe and entertaining flight!

Cowboys Stadium is Truly Amazing

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/id/3377/cowboys-stadium-a-tribute-to-excess

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones has just opened the largest capacity football sporting stadium in the world. He told ESPN writer, Matt Mosley that the stadium will seat over 100,000 people, and he spared no expense making it the nicest also. Jerry Jones plans to make this Cowboys stadium as well known as the Whitehouse. Jerry got his inspiration for his new stadium from all around the world. He traveled all over Europe to find ideas for this building. Jerry Jones wants this building to be his legacy. This stadium cost 1.2 billion dollars to build and he and the residents of Arlington believe that it is worth every penny. Jerry Jones has been the owner of the Dallas Cowboys since 1989, and has three superbowl victories under his belt. He has not only made the Dallas Cowboys the most popular football team in America, but made them the most popular athletic team in the world.

This stadium has many unique features. When the team gets ready to go onto the field or leave they march right through the Miller Lite Club, one of the many bars in his stadium. If you were looking for a ticket to one of the Cowboys games you could even go for the “Party Pass,” it’s a twenty-nine dollar pass that is standing room only and sells eight dollar drinks all game. There is room for you and 20,000 of your fellow Cowboy fans. This ticket is the best value for those of us on a budget. They are many other seats, but they cost quite a bit more. The Cowboys regular seats are priced the highest in the National Football League. Probably the most unique feature this stadium possesses is the GIGANTIC scoreboard in the center of the field. On top of that, it is in HD!

My first reaction to Jerry Jones building an athletic stadium of this magnitude was that I think he is crazy. Why in world would you need a stadium that had so much? After I thought about it though, I began to think why not? This is not only an accomplishment for the Cowboys, but an architectural one as well. The Cowboys fans have to be very proud of their team and their new stadium.

I think I reacted this way because 1.2 billion dollars is so much money. At first I thought he was kind of throwing it away just so people would remember him when he’s gone. I really think Jerry Jones not only cares about making money, but he also really cares about his fans and players. I really like how he made some of the tickets so reasonable for those fans that are on a budget.

I’m not even a Cowboys fan and I want to go to one of their games. I really want to see this scoreboard that is supposed to be amazing.

How Bad Do Teenagers Drive?

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/teen-drivers-cars-crash/Story?id=8675882&page=2

A recently published article in the journal Pediatrics said that teenagers are twice as likely to get into a vehicle accident when they have their own car instead of sharing one with their parents. Dr. Flaura Winston from The Center for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia wrote an article about how parents that give their kids a car when they turn sixteen may be giving them too much freedom thus increasing their chance of having a car wreck. If they share a car with their parents, the parents are more apt to ask questions such as, where are you going, and who are you going with? She said this gives the child less feeling of freedom and makes them think more of what consequences they could get for reckless driving. She also says that in the beginning of teenage driving can be very essential for their safety by teaching them good practices, and making those aware of what risks are involved while behind the wheel. Of course, young drivers are not going to have a lot of experience, but what experience they do get in their initial behind the wheel opportunities will mold their habits for the rest of their lives.

I remember getting my first car when I turned sixteen. I couldn’t wait for the freedom I was getting ready to get a hold of. I have to admit that my parents were probably too lenient with me. (My driving record proves it.) I did quite a few reckless things with the vehicle I was given and am lucky I did not get into any major accidents. The funny thing is that when I got a chance to drive my parents vehicles I would follow all of the driving laws perfectly. They also wanted to know everything I was doing with their vehicles too.

I think this article will help me realize that when I have children I will second guess giving them a car right when they turn sixteen. I also believe that all the new state laws for young drivers will help a lot in the decision making process for our young drivers. I know that they have a lot stiffer penalties for reckless driving than a driver that has had a few years experience.
We all know someone who has been affected from a car accident and I believe that we should try to give our young drivers as much experience as we possibly can. Hopefully these new laws will save some of these teenage drivers lives.
