I’m sure that some of you reading this have recently been to Kansas City Missouri, and many of you know that smoking in public enclosed places has been banned. While reading on the Snus News web site I found out how the local government has gotten away with this ban. The Missouri laws used to only pertain to larger restaurant and large areas where people gather for the no smoking ban. If you were a business owner that had a bar, pool hall, bowling ally, or a resteraunt that seats less than fifty people you did not have to have a designated smoking or non smoking area. That has changed recently with the new laws put into place by Kansas City. Now you can’t smoke in any public enclosed place in the whole city or you can be fined. You have to be outside or on your own property. Some local bar owners threw a fit over this because they said that state law supersedes that of local law and that the state law has let them smoke inside their buildings. This all went to court and the court system ruled in the favor of Kansas City because they say that the state law sis not actually say they could smoke in their establishments, but only permits them at the time.
Now we non smokers can enjoy going out on the town in Kansas City with out all the smoke filled restaurants and have a god time with out getting a head ache. I’m really glad that this ban has set in because I believe that the workers and their non smoking customers are being subject to something toxic.
I reacted this way because I am not a smoker and hate the smell of smoke. I really hope to see Joplin take some of Kansas City’s knowledge and ban smoking in all of its public places. I would probably even go bowling in this town if they would do that ban. I can’t tell you how many times I have been invited to our local bowling allies to bowl a few frames. When I get there I usually remember why I never come there in the first place. My eyes start watering and I’m ready to leave I just a few minutes. I truly believe that those workers there are being subjected to something they shouldn’t have to deal with. I think all smokers should take it outside.
Please, non-area…. (Joplin, mo.)
